Stump Grinding
Get the yard back, down to the roots.
Compact grinders reach backyard stumps through narrow gates, then we backfill with the grindings or topsoil so you can replant or seed.
What this service is really about.
A leftover stump invites carpenter ants and fungal decay and makes mowing a chore. Grinding removes the stump and the major surface roots to a depth of 8 to 12 inches, enough to lay sod or plant a new tree a few feet away.
We call NC 811 before every grind to mark buried utilities, then use a tracked grinder that crosses lawns with very little rutting. Grindings can be left as mulch or hauled off and replaced with screened topsoil.

Measure
We measure diameter at ground level and check access width and slope.
Locate utilities
A free NC 811 request marks gas, water and cable lines before we grind.
Grind
The stump and surface roots are ground below grade with debris shields in place.

We backfill, rake level and leave the area ready for soil or seed.

8 to 12 inches below grade is standard. We can go deeper for patios or foundations on request.
Most species will not resprout once the root flare is ground out. Sweetgum, black locust and some maples can sucker for a season and we will return to treat them.
Our compact grinder needs a 36 inch opening. For narrower access we can bring a hand grinder.
