Estimates and pricing
Yes. Estimates for pruning, removal, stump grinding and clearing are free within our service area. Formal written risk assessments and reports are a paid service, credited toward work booked within 60 days.
Most estimates are scheduled within 3 to 5 business days. Hazard concerns are prioritized, and storm damage goes to our 24/7 emergency line.
Not always. If we can access the trees, we can walk the property, mark the work with ribbon and send a photo estimate. For complex work we prefer to meet you.
By tree size, access, what sits underneath, equipment needed and cleanup. Every estimate lists the scope in writing so you can compare apples to apples.
Not for standard residential work. Large clearing projects and crane jobs require a 25 percent deposit to reserve equipment.
Tree care and health
Look for dead branches in the upper crown, fungal growth at the base, cracks, and bark falling away. A single brown branch after drought is usually stress. If you are unsure, an arborist assessment will give you a clear answer.
Only when a soil test shows a deficiency. Most urban tree decline is caused by compaction and root damage, not a lack of fertilizer.
White cottony dots at the base of needles in late winter are hemlock woolly adelgid. Treatment is effective when the tree still has at least half its canopy.
Two to three inches spread wide and kept a hand's width away from the trunk. Mulch piled against the bark causes rot.
On the day of work
No, as long as we have access and cars are moved from the work zone. Your crew lead will call when they arrive and when they finish.
We use ground protection mats under equipment and avoid driving on saturated ground. Minor ruts are raked and seeded at no charge.
Chips can be left for mulch or hauled away. Logs can be cut into firewood rounds, stacked, or removed. Tell us your preference on the estimate.
Light rain rarely stops pruning. Lightning, high wind or saturated ground will reschedule your job, and we will call you the day before.
Safety, insurance and credentials
Yes. We carry $2 million general liability and full workers compensation coverage. Certificates are emailed on request before work begins.
It is a professional credential from the International Society of Arboriculture that requires experience, an exam and continuing education. Every estimate at Canopy & Crown is written by a certified arborist.
If a tree falls on a covered structure, most policies help with removal from that structure. We document the scene with photos and itemized invoices for your adjuster.
We prune near service drops to homes. Primary distribution lines require Duke Energy or a line-clearance qualified crew, and we coordinate with the utility when needed.
